March for Moulsecoomb 2.0

15 May 2021 8:30am–1:00pm

Moulsecoomb Primary School, The Highway, Brighton

Moulsecoomb Primary School is being threatened with being forced to become an academy against the wishes of the community AGAIN!
96% of parents have said they don’t want it, staff have taken strike action 4 times to prevent it, the council want to keep it as a local authority school, our MP supports us, and the community have repeatedly made clear that we oppose the move.
But the government is persisting with their privatisation plans and wants The Pioneer Academy from South London to take over our school by September. We have to stop them!
The CEO pays himself a combined salary and pension of £170,000-£180,000 per year with public money from school budgets, and their Director of Schools was one of the Ofsted inspectors that rated our school “inadequate”.
If The Pioneer Academy takes control of one of our of schools in Brighton & Hove, they might try to take over others in the future.
We need to show the privatisers and the fat cat academy bosses that Brighton & Hove says NO to academies!
Join us at the school gates from 9:30am for a 10am start. We will be marching down Lewes Road to The Level for speeches. As well as hearing from Moulsecoomb Primary School staff and parents, we will also hear from:
💥 Lloyd Russell-Moyle MP
💥 Hands Off Peacehaven Schools
💥 Save One World Nursery
💥 John Roan Resists – No to Academies
💥 Defend Victimised NEU Reps
💥 Save Our Schools
💥 Brighton Table Tennis Club
Union officials will be carrying our risk assessments and stewards will be keeping people safe. Please stay socially distanced and within your bubbles, wear masks and bring hand sanitiser.
Please bring banners, flags and prepare to make some noise! Let’s make it bigger than the last one!
